Canton of the ValaisSion is the capital of the Valais and the bishopÂ’s seat. It is built around two hills which are the site of the fortified church of Notre-Damme-de-Valere and the remains of the episcopal chateau of Tourbillon.
Le Chateau Valere is situated on one of the helms over Sion. It was built in the beginning of the 12th century as a bishopsÂ’ residence who lived in the chateau before the Great French Revolution. In 1883 the chateau made the Museum of History. Now it is one of the oldest history museems in Switzerland.
Sierre marks the French-German language boundary of the Canton of Valais and enjoys the prestige of being one of the sunniest cities of Switzerland.
The complex made up of Crans-Montana-Vermala is one of the most renowned touristic centres in the Valais.
